Soroptimists collect and donate hundreds of socks for homeless people every year. Plowshares cannot accept clothing donations, but makes an exception for socks since they are so easily stored and given away, much appreciated by homeless, especially in wintertime, who often spend much of their day outdoors and on their feet.

Bill Costello received a "Gumby" award from Plowshares Director Mary Buckley for his flexibility and cheerfulness in volunteering as a cook, Meals-on-Wheels driver and last-minute on-call backup for other volunteers.
